What green building means for the owner-occupier

 

‘Green building’ ensures high levels of comfort ‘naturally’, minimising the need for heating, cooling and lighting, through the design and orientation of buildings and spaces, and through use of energy efficient construction systems. These principles, correctly applied, within a defined economic framework, usually give payback on ‘extra’ investment over a period of 4 to 8 years.  Green building also ensures a healthy indoor environment through the use of environmentally ‘benign’ materials and construction, and  conservation of water use, (within limitations dictated by Ministry of Health).
